The fourth annual Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge took place at Baxter Brewing Company on November 4, and more than 200 people sampled the offerings of 17 different cooks, voted for their favorites and enjoyed discounts on pints of beer, courtesy of Baxter Brewing Company.
The event was put on by the Dream Team, a group of AHCH employees and friends, who spend all year raising money which is donated donate at one of our other events, the Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk, in August. Last year, this team raised more than $20,000 to support patient care at the Hospice House.
This year’s Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge raised nearly $2,000.
As far as the competition was concerned the celebrity judges found it a difficult task to choose an overall winner. In the end, it was Michelle House’s Coastal Corn Chowder that took home top honors. The voting for the Peoples’ Choice winner was exceptionally close, with Doug Cantwell’s Creamy Asparagus Soup.
Winners received a commemorative apron signifying their achievement, along with a handmade cutting board.
We’d like to thank Baxter Brewing Company for their partnership, the use of their space and for offering discounts on their brews. In addition, we’d like to recognize our celebrity judges: Chip Morrison from the AHCH Board of Directors; Jon Greene of Baxter Brewing Company; Peter Arsenault from the Fortin Group; and Millie Kidd from the Twin City Times.
