Auburn, Maine 7.9.14 - A group of dedicated and community focused staff members at Auburn Savings Bank recently came together to donate a Sun Care Basket to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's (AHCH) Hospice House in Auburn. The idea came about after Branch Supervisor and Loan Officer, Megan Moody, participated in The Young Professionals of the Lewiston Auburn Area (YPLAA) Y-Not? program. "One of the tasks of the Y-Not? challenge was to take a tour of the Hospice House. I had never been there before and it seemed like an easy enough task to complete, so a few of my teammates and I took the tour. I never realized this place existed or the difference that Hospice care can make for families during one of the most difficult times of their lives," Moody states.
It was on that tour that Hospice House Supervisor, Kate Sicotte, made a passing comment about the beautiful deck that had recently been erected, but the need for some sun safety items for patients and their families to use so that they can enjoy the sunshine comfortable and without getting burned. "Many of our patients and their loved ones like to sit outside the deck: to feel the sun on their skin, enjoy a warm summer breeze or watch their children or grandchildren playing in the yard. This might be the last time that they get to enjoy those simple pleasures, but sunscreen and sunglasses aren't something usually thought of to pack and bring with them," Sicotte said. Moody recognized the need and jumped to action. Staff at Auburn Savings Bank donated a basket full of sun screens, wide brimmed hats for men and women and sun glasses so that those patients and Hospice House guests can safely enjoy the sunshine out on the deck. Sicotte said: "The generosity of people and businesses in our community and their willingness to help our patients will always astound me!"
