Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice Announces New Volunteers & Upcoming Trainings

Lewiston, Maine  11.11.13 - Volunteer support has been an integral part of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's services for 40 years. The Program is now widely recognized as one of the most extensive, non-profit, home health care volunteer programs in Maine.

Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice is pleased to announce that five people completed the Bereavement Volunteer Training class in October and four people completed the General Volunteer Training class in November. The newest members of the AHCH Volunteer Team include: Mary Fournier-Austin, Auburn; Helen Incze, Lewiston; Fred Jordan, Poland; Linda Keene, Turner; Karen Labonte, Durham; Beth McIntyre, West Paris; Julie Ouellette, Lewiston; Beverly Robinson, West Paris; Leo Savard, Lewiston; and Sherry Swasey, Sabattus.

"When I became a volunteer, I never realized what a big impact it would have on my life," states Bob Oliver, Volunteer for Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. "I started to look at life through the eyes of the caregiver and patient. I then realized just how much a couple of hours of my time were worth to someone else. I love this work." Volunteer opportunities include visiting patients on home care or hospice services, providing respite for caregivers, bereavement support and facilitating grief groups, Hospice House greeters, patient support and kitchen work, grocery shopping and medication pick-up, transportation, and office work. Volunteers specializing in complementary therapies such as pet therapy, Reiki, massage, music and art are also welcome.

Upcoming Volunteer Trainings:
General Volunteer Training
November 21st, December 3rd and December 19th at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's Lewiston Office on 15 Strawberry Avenue. All classes are from 9:00am-3:30pm.

Hospice Volunteer Training
Next 6-session training - begins January 13th at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's Lewiston Office on 15 Strawberry Avenue.

Program for Grieving Children & Teens
November 19th and 31st - 9:00am-12noon (Tuesday and Thursday) at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's Lewiston Office on 15 Strawberry Avenue.
