Lewiston, Maine 6.30.15 - Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice (AHCH) was awarded $10,000 from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®. Funds will support sponsorship of Autumn Night Out, the Agency's annual auction and a $5,000 grant for Camp Dragonfly, a grief support retreat for children and families.
2015 marks the 10th year the foundation has generously sponsored Autumn Night Out. Held in October, Autumn Night Out raises needed funds for critical aspects of the Agency's hospice program such as volunteer and bereavement support services offered to patients and family members, as well as care provided to patients who lack health insurance. With the foundation's leadership, Autumn Night Out has become AHCH's signature event raising more than $70,00 each year.
Launched in 2014, Camp Dragonfly is a component of the Program for Grieving Children & Teens (PGCT) that has provided grief support for local families for 17 years. The one day retreat camp is held twice a year. The goal of Camp Dragonfly is to increase family members' comfort in discussing death and dying, develop healthy coping skills and learn how to support each other through this difficult time.
"This generous grant from the TD Charitable Foundation for the Program for Grieving Children & Teens' Camp Dragonfly allows AHCH to continue our efforts to help children and their families as they begin or are experiencing one of the most difficult journeys a family will ever take...that of grief. Through music, art, crafts, group activities and celebration of their loved ones, families can begin to heal", said Amy Dulac, AHCH Bereavement Coordinator.
PGCT/Camp Dragonfly is offered at no cost to participants. The program relies entirely upon the generosity of the community for continuation.
